McCreary gets only win for Lady Panthers in Highland loss
BY AARON OTTIS

JERSEYVILLE – The Lady Panthers suffered an 8-1 defeat to Highland Tuesday, moving Jersey’s Mississippi Valley Conference record to 2-3.

Jersey’s only win came from junior Danah McCreary at No. 1 Singles. She defeated Highland’s Duft in two sets, winning 6-4, 6-4.

“Danah played great. It was a great win for her,” Morgan said. “She came out really on top of her game, and was in control of the match from the beginning. I don’t think she got down in any games, which was great for her.”

Jersey did get a team win by defeating Collinsville 5-4 on Thursday. The squads split the singles matches down the middle, but Jersey saw wins at No. 1 and No.2 Doubles to clinch the victory.

“Collinsville was a great match,” Jersey coach Beth Morgan said. “They have greatly improved since last year, and they are pretty much where we are this year play-wise. That was an important match to win because it kept us over .500 going into our tough schedule this week against Highland and Granite City.”

McCreary defeated Miles at No.1 Singles, winning 6-3, 6-1. Kelsey Nairn beat Giacoletto 7-6, 6-4. Kali DeSherlia won 6-4, 6-4 over Chardain. Jungk lost to Hughes 6-3, 6-1. Welbourne lost to Schaffer 6-3, 6-1, and Carlee Crawford lost to Tolan 6-0, 7-6.

McCreary and Nairn combined for a 10-8 win over Miles-Giacoletto at No. 1 Doubles, and DeSherlia-Jungk won 10-7 over Hughes-Schaffer to give Jersey the win.

Mitchell-Gruber beat Elliott-Stotler 10-3 in No. 3 doubles.
