Waterloo beats Jersey, Panthers remain
winless in MVC
JERSEYVILLE – Jersey’s Mississippi Valley Conference woes continued Tuesday as the Panthers’ varsity soccer team suffed a 4-2 loss to Waterloo at JCHS.

On the bright side, a nice break from play last week gave the Panthers a chance to rest some injured players. Jersey is now close to full roster strength after Mark Rowling and Garett Meisner have returned to the defensive fold.

But the Panthers chances to get a MVC win in 2008 are dwindling, and Jersey has only three conference contests remaining. Two will be on the road against Mascoutah and Highland.

Mike Heitzig gave Jersey an early 1-0 lead Tuesday off an assist from Jon Harmon.
Waterloo struck back quickly, putting the score at 1-1.

The Bulldogs offense put immense pressure on Jersey during the closing minutes of the first half, but the Panthers defense held strong. Meisner, Rowling and Pat Madson were able to distrupt multiple plays, and Jersey goalie Tim McBride made some spectacular saves to keep the match tied.

Waterloo posted two goals to open the second period, eventually running the score to 4-2.

Danny Guerra scored Jersey’s second goal with an assist from Pat Madson.
