JERSEYVILLE - After having pleasant weather in the area for most of the day, a band of thunderstroms crossed the area late Monday afternoon and forced the cancellation of the annual George Havens Cross Country Invitational at Westlake Country Club.

The rain began to fall shortly before the start of the girl’s race, and thunder caused a mandatory 30 minute delay. Thunder was heard again before five minutes before the delayed start, and Jersey officials were forced to call off the meet.

Earlier this week, Jeff Wooldridge edged by teammate Troy Pace to win a triangular at Westlake.

Wooldridge won the 3.0 mile race in 17:21, with Pace taking second in 17:22. Ryan Todd was third at 18:35.

Jersey’s Dan Wendell was seventh in 20:14, and Brendan Kimble’s eighth place finish at 20:16 gave the Panthers a team score of 21.

Other mens finishers included: Eric Requadt 20:17, Zach Wilschetz 22:13, Zane Peters 22:29, Anthony Matthews 26:23.

The Jersey girls were second with 43 points. Kathleen led the charge with a second place finish in 23:04. Katie Boucher took sixth in 23:55, and Greta Meisner was seventh at 24:45. Sarah Allen finished 13th at 27:42.

Other womens finishers included: Veronica Coyte Webster 28:46, Ann Bridgewater 29:18, Cassie Gimlin 29:47.
