Golfers slip past Alton at Spencer T. Olin

ALTON - The Jersey Community High School varsity golf team capitalized on Andrew Maul’s medal winning 39 to defeat Alton 167-170 Monday at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.

Maul’s 3-over par performance made him the only player in the field to crack into the 30s.

Bradley Davis carded a 40, as did Alton’s top finisher Boyd.

Jersey’s Josh Steckel had one of his best rounds this season with a 42.

Kyle Stagner shot a 46, and the Panthers’ varsity score was rounded out by Kyle Wilson’s 48.

Other scores for Jerseyville included Matt Murphy’s 48 and Mitch Madson’s 54.

Jersey played at Spencer T. Olin again on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. The Panthers will travel to Jacksonville on Wednesday, with the Lady Panthers going to Bethalto. The team will be in Mascoutah Thursday.
